PA: Police Officer Attacked Students on Temple Mount

The Palestinian Authority has complained to the Arab League and the United Nations about what it calls an attack by a high-ranking policeman on students at the entrance to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, according to a Monday-morning report by the Ma'ariv daily. The PA claims that the officer knocked a copy of the Qur'an from the hands of a female student and harmed other female students while trying to prevent them from bowing in the courtyard of the Al-Aqsa mosque and the Mughrabi (Rambam) Gate, which serves those going up to the holy site.

Former PA prime minister Ahmed Qureia (Abu Ala) condemned the incident, calling it a matter of students who encountered a belligerent officer. He warned against a deterioration in relations between   Israeli security forces and Muslim worshipers at Al-Aqsa, and asked for immediate international involvement.
