Zaur Sadaev, one of the Chechyan Muslims recently signed by the Beitar Jerusalem soccer club, scored the team's goal in its 1-1 tie with Maccabi Netanya on Sunday evening at Teddy Stadium. The goal came in the opening minutes of the second half and gave the home team a 1-0 lead but dozens of those in attendance headed for the exits. Sadaev was also heckled before the goal.
Beitar was recently awarded a grant to fight racism in the light of the expressions of some hardcore fans against the inclusion of the Muslims on the team.
