Kerry Meets Morsi, Talks about Israel

United States Secretary of State John Kerry met with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on Sunday as he wrapped up a visit to Cairo. Kerry said he and Morsi would discuss ways in which the U.S. could assist Egypt in facing an economic crisis.

According to AFP, a State Department official said “the primary goal here is to encourage [Morsi’s] – to encourage his work that he did with Israelis in getting the Gaza ceasefire.” Egyptian mediators played a role in getting Hamas to halt the rocket attacks on southern and central Israel that led to the Cast Lead counter-terror operation.
