The Likud Beytenu party is seeking to create the widest possible coalition, MK Zev Elkin (Likud) said Sunday. A broad-based coalition would help the government avoid extortion at the hands of any one individual party, he told Reshet Bet.
The government will face the need to decide on controversial issues, including hareidi-religious army recruitment and diplomatic talks with the Palestinian Authority. In a narrow coalition, most single parties could take down the government by leaving, making it more difficult for the government to make significant changes to policy.
