Forty-two people, including two police officers, have been killed and hundreds wounded in clashes between protesters and security forces, which broke out Thursday in Bangladesh.

The violence erupted after a court imposed the death penalty on an Islamist party leader on charges stemming from the war of independence from Pakistan in 1971.
