Vatican Clears Up How to Address Pope After Retirement

The Vatican on Tuesday released details concerning the retirement of Pope Benedict XVI.

Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told reporters at the Vatican that the Pope will keep the name Benedict XVI and will still be addressed as "his holiness" and will be known as pope emeritus, emeritus pope or Roman pontifex emeritus.

The announcement comes two days ahead of the Pope's official retirement day, after which he will lead a life of seclusion and prayer.

Many in the Church were unsure of how to address the Pope upon his retirement, as he is the first pope to resign in almost 600 years.
