Three Years Later, BP in Court for Disastrous Oil Spill

Almost three years after the disastrous BP deepwater rig rupture which spewed 4 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, killed 11 men and caused billions of dollars in damage to the surrounding area, the court trial for BP and other companies involved in the disaster begins Monday.

The trial for the worst U.S. offshore oil spill will be held in New Orleans before a federal judge and without a jury.

Legal experts predict that an agreement will be reached outside of the courtroom and early testimony is likely to set the tone for any settlement talks, depending on how damaging the evidence is.
