Religious Zionist Rabbis Choose Chief-Rabbi Candidate

In a secret vote, a nationwide gathering in Jerusalem of  a group of religious-Zionist rabbis, including municipal rabbis, religious court judges and major yeshiva heads elected Rabbi Eliezer Igra of the rabbinical court in Be'er Sheva' to be their candidate for the post of Ashkenazi chief rabbi. Other candidates are Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, Dean of Merkaz Harav and Rav David Stav of Tzohar.

Half of those invited were prevented from attending by a Justice Ministry ban on the attendance of the municipal rabbis and religious court judges.
