Potato Flour Prices to Stay down for Passover

Despite Chinese Trade Department decision to tax up to 59% of potato flour imported from Europe to china, Director of SKS World Kosher Food Network Rabbi David Moscowitz assesses potato flour elsewhere will maintain its regular prices due to sufficient local production.

Many Jews have a practice of avoiding moist Matza and Matza flour on Passover, maintaining an ancient custom based on concern of flour accumulating on the Matzos at the bakery which could ferment and become prohibited Chametz when wet. To accommodate this custom, many Passover products are popularly prepared with potato flour, which is not included in the Chametz prohibition, hence the market abundance of Potato flour for Passover.
