The Isle of Malta is only about the size of greater Tel Aviv with a similar population, and 95% is Catholic. Nonetheless, a small Jewish community of some 100 members flourishes in Malta. Descendants of the late Rabbi Ohayon run the local synagogue in a renovated apartment with regular services and seven Torah scrolls. The new synagogue is under construction. The community also established a strictly Kosher restaurant, the ‘L’Chaim’, featuring authentic Jewish cuisine.
