Lindenstrauss: Comptroller Must Probe Prisoner X Case

Former state comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss called, Tuesday, on his successor, Yoseph Shapiro, to open an investigation into the prison suicide of Australian-Israeli Ben Zygier, also known as Prisoner X. Interviewed by Israel Defense Forces Radio, Lindenstrauss said, "He has the proper tools, and the people in the security division are well versed in these matters and can fill the need for a public investigation." He also criticized the way the matter has been handled by various entities, including the legal system, explaining, "From a public perspective, things must be more open and clearer."

On Monday, Shapiro announced he would decide, in a few days, whether or not to open an investigation, explaining that he wanted to see what was being done by the institutions in charge of the matter, the government, the Knesset and the attorney general. He noted that others were talking about a state investigation.
