'Violence for Religious Character' in Beitar Ilit

The National Fraud Unit arrested two suspects, Monday, in connection with an undercover investigation into violence in the Judean Jewish community of Beitar Ilit. Additional suspects were detained for questioning and houses were searched. A remand hearing is scheduled, Tuesday in the Rishon Letzion Magistrates Court.

Those arrested are suspected of running "modesty patrols" which ostensibly supervised religious character through order and modesty on buses and streets in the city. They face charges of making threats, aggravated injury, simple assault, abduction, false imprisonment of those - including youth - that they perceived as violating the city's religious character. They also face charges of interfering with the investigation.
