Venezuela Seeks Closer Ties with the US

Foreign minister Elias Jaua of Venezuela said, Sunday, that President Hugo Chavez has asked his diplomats to seek improved relations with the United States, according to the Associated Press. The announcement is a departure from the anti-U.S. and anti-Israel rhetoric of the Caracas regime in recent years.

In an interview broadcast on local television, Jaua said, "We want to have a good relationship with the United States, but we are not desperate." He said he wanted Venezuela's ambassador to the Organization of American States to talk with officials in Washington about restoring ambassadors in each country.
