PM Cancels 10,000-Shekel Ice-Cream Deal

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced, Thursday evening, that he was cancelling a deal that would have allowed him to make an annual purchase of 10,000 shekels worth of ice cream for events at the Prime Minister's Residence in Jerusalem, according to the Calcalist financial publication. A statement issued just before midnight said the prime minister cancelled the deal as soon as he found out about it, calling it an unacceptable taxpayer expense.

The cancellation followed a Calcalist report on the deal with the ice-cream parlor across the street, which included an exemption from putting the purchase out to a competitive bid.
