On Wednesday night courts allowed the publication of information regarding the man with Australian citizenship who was jailed in Israel and died in 2010. Referred to in the media as "prisoner x" the man held both Israeli and foreign citizenship and was kept anonymous for security reasons.
"This prisoner was found dead in his cell two years ago. Several weeks ago a decision was given ruling the death a suicide. The case will be examined to determine if there was any aspects of negligence," a official statement read.
The statement continued, "the arrested and his family was notified immediately, and he was represented by attorneys Roy Blecher and Boaz Ben-Tzur. Procedures regarding the prisoner were accompanied by the highest officials at the Ministry of Justice, and the individual rights of prisoners were kept, subject to the provisions of the law. These security aspects were examined by the Central District Court, who decided to impose a sweeping gag order on the case. The warrant was issued at the request of the security agencies approved by the relevant Ministry of Justice," the statement read.
