Russia, the main supplier of arms to Syria, announced on Wednesday that it would continue to deliver weapons to Bashar al-Assad's regime, despite the grizzly toll the civil war is taking on the country.
Just one day after the UN Human Rights Organization reported that the death toll in Syria is likely to approach 70,000 soon, Russia's head of the state arms exporter confirmed that Moscow would deliver "military hardware" to Syria, such as anti-missile air defense systems, but added that the deal did not include anything that could be used as attack weapons such as planes or helicopters.
"We are continuing to carry out our obligations on contracts for the delivery of military hardware," director Anatoly Isaikin told a news conference.
