Judge Tells Secondary Teachers to Clean Up Elections

Central District District-Court Judge Ya'akov Sheinman told the Secondary Schools Teachers Organization, Sunday, that he expects it to set clear and explicit election procedures, openly published on the organization's website and by email to all teachers. The judge's admonition came in a ruling against a petition by the Ruach Hadash (New Spirit) faction to overturn the results of the 2010 election, which resulted in the election of Ran Erez as chairman of the union. Ruach Hadash claimed that the Erez faction was blocking reforms that would improve the status of the teacher.

Judge Sheinman wrote, "I believe that in this case even though the specific claims of irregularities were not proven the most part, the sad picture that emerges from the testimonies of the parties is the slick management of the election process, with no clear procedures, when people associated with Ran Erez had double and triple roles which at least apparently conflict with proper management of elections that had no fear of fault...."
