10-Year-Old's Eye Injured by Pre-Purim Firecrackers

The eyes of a boy, about ten years old, were injured, Sunday, on Netivot Hamishpat Street in Modi'in Ilit, about halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, by firecrackers that exploded next to him. Volunteers from the Ichud Hatzalah emergency service arrived in minutes to administer first aid to the victim and take him to hospital for further treatment.

Ichud Hatzalah called on parents to warn their children and keep them from playing with firecrackers and caps, which are popular with children for the Purim holiday in two weeks. The organization also took merchants to task for stalking the small explosives, which are a big temptation for kids. The city of Beit Shemesh announced, about a week ago, that it will do everything possible to eradicate the phenomenon.
