United States President Barack Obama is planning his first visit to Israel in order to ensure that Israel does not carry out a strike in Iran, Army Radio (Galei Tzahal) reported Sunday, based on reports from diplomatic sources. Sources in Washington reportedly fear that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu believes Iran will reach nuclear capability by spring 2013, and will act accordingly.
Netanyahu said Sunday that Obama’s visit would focus on the Iranian nuclear threat as well as the ongoing conflict in Syria and attempts to resume talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
