The United Nations’ refugee welfare group UNHCR warned that there could be as many as one million Syrian refugees by June. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have fled the country due to heavy fighting, and hundreds of thousands more have been displaced within the country.

UNHCR spokeswoman Sybella Wilkes said the organization is working “around the clock” to meet the needs of refugees in Lebanon Egypt and elsewhere. The UNHRC is appealing for more funds.
