Hamas Blames Abbas for Breakdown in Unity Talks

The newest round of reconciliation talks held this weekend in Cairo between the various Palestinian factions ended without an agreement reached.

Representatives of Hamas and Fatah were once again unable to reach an agreement on the formation of a Palestinian unity government and new elections, sources from Cairo explained.

Senior Hamas official Musa Abu Marzouk blamed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas for the breakdown of talks, saying, "If Abbas wants the reconciliation to proceed, he should refrain from raising issues that we had already reached agreement about."

"Instead, Abbas should be implementing what has already been agreed upon between Hamas and Fatah," he added.
