Former Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon spoke at a cultural event in Holon on Saturday and said that ahead of US President Barack Obama's visit in March, the right thing for Israel to do would be to recognize the Palestinian entity's UN status in order to advance negotiations.
"Israel will give the Palestinians sovereignty and independence and in return they will recognize Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish people and enable security arrangements. It is up to the Prime Minister to say, 'I will recognize them but you have to recognize me' and from there we can continue on to future arrangements. I want Abu Mazen to say in Arabic, not Hebrew or English, that he recognizes Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish people. It will affect future generations," Ayalon said.
