Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu condemned on Friday the violence by those who oppose the integration of Chechen players into the Beitar Jerusalem soccer club.
"Such behavior is shameful. We cannot countenance such racism. The Jewish people, who suffered from boycotts and ostracism, must be a light unto the nations," the Prime Minister said.
A fire, believed to be arson, broke out at the office of Beitar Jerusalem early on Friday morning, hours after it was announced that the team would receive funds to fight racism in the wake of vocal opposition to the team's signing of the Muslim players.
