Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu condemned, Friday, the pre-dawn fire at the office of the Beitar Jerusalem soccer club, which is believed to be arson. Channel 2 Television reported that the fire followed reports that action was going to be taken against a group of fans opposed to the club's signing of two Muslim players from the Chechnya region of Russia. The chanting of racist slogans and the showing of racist banners followed word of the club's intention to acquire the players.
Netanyahu said he opposes "violence on the part of those who oppose the integration of the Chechnyan players into the team. This behavior is disgraceful. The Jewish people, which has suffered from boycotts and expulsion, should serve as a light unto the nations."
