The year 2013 began with a budget surplus, according to figures published Thursday by the Ministry of Finance.

The data show that state revenues in January were higher by about 2.5 billion shekels from its expenditures.

The Finance Ministry noted that in January, the government operated without an approved budget and was permitted to spend only 1/12 of the previous year's budget.
