NIS 200,000 to Beitar Jerusalem to Fight Racism

At the request of Culture and Sports Minister Limor Livnat, the council for sports gambling will transfer about 200,000 shekels to the Beitar Jerusalem soccer club to help it fight racism and violence by hardcore fans. The fans have a history of violence, especially when the opponent is from an Arab city, but they drew attention to themselves recently by expressing opposition to the team's acquisition of two Muslim players from the Russian league. Indictments were filed with the Jerusalem Magistrates Court, Thursday, against four fans, charging them with racist expressions related to two incidents.

At the same time, Public Safety Minister Yitzchak Aharonovitch approved a request by Minister Livnat to give the team a discount for security costs for its game on Sunday against Bnei Sakhnin and other games that will require a special security presence.
