United States President Barack Obama is considering the appointment of nuclear physicist Professor Ernest Moniz as Secretary of Energy.

Professor Moniz, who heads MIT's Energy Initiatives,  is presently one of Obama's advisors on science and technology. He is a familiar figure on Capitol Hill, having been undersecretary in the Department of Energy during the term of former president Bill Clinton.
