Petition: Complete Investigation into Harpaz Case

The Movement for Quality Government petitioned the Supreme Court, Monday, to order Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein and prosecutors to explain why they did not order a complete investigation into the case of the Harpaz Document. The case involves intrigues surrounding the process to select the successor to former chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi of the Israel Defense Forces, the first of which was a forgery by reserves officer Boaz Harpaz, in which it was made to look as if a consulting firm was telling General Yoav Galant to engage in a smear campaign against other candidates. In time, Ashkenazi and aide Erez Wiener were accused of spying on Defense Minister Barak, and Attorney General Weinstein ordered a military-police investigation into the behavior of Ashkenazi and Wiener, following a report on the case by the State Comptroller's Office.

In the petition, attorneys for the Movement for Quality Government claim the case is one of the most serious to affect the top echelon of military leadership and raises suspicions about prolonged, systematic violations of the law.
