2 Killed in Shelling of Damascus Neighborhood

Two men were killed and 20 were wounded, Sunday, when Syrian government forces fired mortar shells at the Al-Waseem mosque in the Yarmouk neighborhood of Damascus, according to a Sunday-evening report by the Palestininan Authority's Ma'an news agency. The neighborhood is home to Arabs who left Israel when the modern Jewish state was founded in 1948 and their descendants. Half a million such Arabs live in Syria.

Ma'an cited the anti-government Yarmouk Committees group, which said hundreds of people had returned to the neighborhood after they fled, late last year, when fighting between the government and the rebels intensified and reached the neighborhood.
