Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal denied, Sunday, reports that the terror organization accepted a solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, based on a new Arab state with temporary borders. Interviewed by Jordanian Television, the politburo chief called the solution a "fabrication". He also said that those identified as "Palestinians" would not accept an alternative to areas west of the River Jordan, alluding to creation of a Palestinian state in the area comprising Jordan.
Mashaaal said Hamas could not support the Syrian government, which chose the military option against its people. He added, "I spoke with the Syrian leadership in February 2011, a month before the outbreak of the Syrian spring, and advised them [to go the other way], but they chose a military solution. Said to the Syrian regime: This is not a conspiracy, this is the demand of your people, and therefore, Hamas cannot be a military cover for the Syrian regime, and against this backdrop, we went our separate ways and left [Syria]."
