There is no way to force a resolution to the debate over the enlistment of hareidi-religious young men, Aryeh Deri of the hareidi-religious Shas party said Sunday. “We agree that we must deal with the problem of increasing equality [in mandatory service], but on the other hand this must be done with understanding, not with coercion,” he told Army Radio (Galei Tzahal).

Coercion would “cause a rift and would not help,” he argued.
