Nearly one hundred Rabbis of Religious Zionism will publish a letter to be distributed in synagogues over the weekend calling for the candidacy of a Sephardic Chief Rabbi from the Religious Zionist camp, in advance of elections to be held in June. “Our success in the recent elections justifies we present a Sephardic candidate, and prevent Shas from obtaining the position.”
A possible popular candidate is Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, the Rabbi of Safed, matched by the Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi candidacy already presented by Tzohar Chairman Rabbi David Stav.
