Politicians Seek Blessing from Influential Gerrer Rebbe

He's not a politician, a celebrity or a billionaire. But high ranking elected officials sought his blessing and advice as the negotiations for the new government coalition continue. Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh Alter, better known as the Gerrer Rebbe, the leader of the Ger hasidic movement received several visitors Wednesday. These included Member of Knesset-elect Aryeh Deri of the Shas party, which mostly representing Sephardic Jewry and Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman of the United Torah Judaism party which largely represents Ashkenazic Jewry.
The mystic Jewish spiritual movement began in Ger, Poland and is currently based in Jerusalem.
