A suspicious bag reported by passersby in Bat Yam turned out to contain several puppies, Maariv/nrg reports.
Police had been called after the bag’s owner was not found. Bags found in public that are not claimed by an owner are normally destroyed in controlled explosions in case they contain bombs. However, in this case a police sapper fortunately noticed the bag moving and realized it contained live animals.
The puppies are in good health. Local animal welfare activists expressed horror at the owner’s neglect, noting that the puppies could easily have died of cold or thirst in addition to the risk of detonation at the hands of sappers.
