Rabbi Dr. Ofir Cohen, Chairman of the Tenufa Authority (formerly known as the Sela Authority), is seeking a way to alleviate the situation of former Gush Katif residents who were issued eviction notices on Tuesday. Cohen, who is both a rabbi and a doctor, announced Tuesday afternoon that families living in trailer homes who's new houses have yet to be built may have a reprieve on rent.
The state filed eviction orders for 165 families currently living in dwellings provided for them by the state which are described as mobile homes, trailer homes, caravans or caravillas.
In 2005 the state evicted thousands of Jews from Gush Katif as part of the Disengagement plan. The Tenufa Authority has been tasked with dealing with residents who qualify for compensation or alternative living quarters.
