Five Arabs and leftists were arrested, Monday, following riots over the destruction of two illegal structures in the contentious Shiloach neighborhood (Silwan in Arabic), south of Jerusalem's Old City. Dozens of neighborhood residents gathered and violently interfered with police and Border Guard officers involved in the demolition, throwing rocks at them and engaging in other physical attacks.
The security forces responded with riot-control measures. A policeman was lightly injured in one of his eyes as a result of an attack. He was taken to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital for treatment and his attacker was arrested.
