Survey: Ma'ariv Readership Dropping Faster than Average

The financial trouble at Ma'ariv was reflected, Monday, when the semi-annual TGI survey of newspaper readership showed that the veteran daily's share of the audience dropped below ten percent. Ma'ariv, thought for decades to lead the country in circulation, suffered a drop of about 20 percent in its share of the market, from 11.9 percent in the first half of 2012 to 9.7 percent.

Overall newspaper readership stood at 63.8 percent for the second half of the year, down about four percent from the first half of the year. The free-of-charge Yisrael Hayom daily rose in the second half of 2012 to a record readership of 39.9 percent, while second-place Yediot Acharonot slipped from 37.6 percent in the first half of the year to 37.3 percent in the second half.
