Chairman Dov Khenin of the leftist Hadash party criticized, Sunday evening, the cabinet's decision to accept changes by Minister Benny Begin to a program that would regulate Bedouin building in the Negev.
Khenin said, "Any solution to the issue of unrecognized villages must be made through dialogue and agreements with Bedouin Arab citizens," adding, "Of course, on such a sensitive subject, a transition government must not carry out an act of underhanded opportunism. And a decision should not be reached whose details are not even known to the people involved. The time has come to open a real new page in relations between the state and the Bedouin Arab public through recognition that these citizens are entitled to equality and recognition. The Negev is also the home of the Bedouin Arab and solutions must be created that will suit them."
