UTJ Gain in Knesset Means New Mayor for Bnei-Brak

Following the election of Bnei-Brak Mayor Ya'akov Asher to the Knesset as the seventh candidate on the United Torah Judaism ticket, Deputy Mayor Avraham Rubinstein is expected to serve the remaining year of Asher's term. A Knesset member is not allowed to hold a local office.

Rubinstein's selection as mayor was reportedly under agreement of two large factions in the predominantly hareidi-religious city. In a year, when local elections are scheduled, it is expected that current acting mayor Chanoch Seibert will become mayor without elections under agreements between three hareidi parties.
