More than 20,000 members of the Bnei Akiva religious youth movement went on trips and tree plantings, ahead of the Tu B'Shevat  New Year of the Trees, which falls, this year, on Shabbat, when planting trees is against Jewish law. The number of participants is a record.

Among the places the members of the various regions went to were the Carmel Beach, The Porah nature reserve, Gush Etzion, Tel Shilo and mini-Jezreel. On the evening schedule for the Jerusalem region is a performance by singer Aharon Razel at the Herodion, the remains of King Herod's summer palace, south of Jerusalem.
