It was reported, Monday, that a baby in the premature-baby ward at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon died as a result of the Klebsiella pneumoniae virus ten days ago. The baby was hospitalized after suffering a severe bowel disease. Another nine babies in the ward were found to be carrying the virus, which was not active and did not threaten them, but they were isolated to avoid infecting anyone else.
About half a year ago, a baby in the premature ward at Schneider Children's Hospital in Petach Tikva died of the virus, which is resistant to antibiotics. The ward was closed as a result, after which it was discovered that three other premature babies were infected.
