Broadcast of Labor Party News Conference Banned

Chairman Eliyakim Rubinstein of the Central Elections Committee banned, Monday morning, the broadcasting of a news conference by Labor Party Chairwoman Shelly Yechimovich regarding Sunday evening's announcement by Prime Minister and Likud Party Chairman Binyamin Netanyahu that he was going to appoint Moshe Kahlon as chairman of the board of the Israel Lands Administration. Rubinstein had banned the broadcast of Netanyahu's news conference as well, describing both as campaign events.

Rubinstein's ruling was in response to a petition from Likud-Beyteinu. The Supreme Court justice said on this last day of the Knesset campaign, all remarks by candidates were to be viewed as political, allowing for journalists to broadcast reports from the scenes of such events.
