Shas Blames Netanyahu for Holding Up Housing Costs

The Sephardic-hareidi Shas party is furious over Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's Sunday-evening announcement that he intends to appoint outgoing Communications and Welfare Minister Moshe Kahlon to chair the board of the Israel Lands Administration. The party said that, under law, the post is occupied by the housing minister and if Netanyahu tries to change the law, he will encounter opposition from his future coalition partners, who will make the goal unattainable.

Housing Minister Ariel Attias said, Monday evening, "It's ridiculous to hear from Netanyahu, two days before the election, that he wants Kahlon to lower land prices. It's something Netanyahu strongly opposed, along with Finance Minister Steinitz,  and fought me when I sought discounts for young couples and newly-discharged soldiers because of Netanyahu's policy to profit from state lands and enrich the coffers of the Treasury by 8 billion shekels from the administration last year, following my record marketing of the land."
