      Chief Rabbi: Mutual Respect - Even During Elections


      Chief Sephardic Rabbi Shlomo Amar issued a written rebuke, Sunday, following the discovery, in Ohr Yehuda - east of Tel Aviv, that books written by former chief rabbi Ovadia Yoseph and his son, Rabbi Yitzchak Yoseph, had been burned. Rabbi Amar wrote, "Israel should know that even during the elections, we are commanded to maintain mutual respect and refrain from humiliating others and other prohibitions between one and one's fellow, which are very serious commandments."

      The rabbi said the act indicates "a serious moral decline. May the Lord be merciful upon us."
