Jeremy Gimpel, a candidate from the Bayit Yehudi (Jewish Home) Party, participated in a debate Wednesday with Zev Elkin of the Likud Party and Rabbi Shai Piron of the Yesh Atid party. The event took place at Bar Ilan University. Ititally Gimpel was denied entrance.
The debate was supposed to feature Amiad Taub, another Bayit Yehudi candidate. Taub had to cancel at the last minute to due to personal reasons.
A brief, spontaneous demonstration took place outside the venue where the debate was to take place in support of Gimpel.
Some participants suspected that the other two panel guests initiated the request to prevent Gimpel for debating.
Matan Bar Noy of the Bar Ilan Student Union told Arutz Sheva news that the initial rejection of Gimpel had nothing to do with politics. He said Taub was specifically chosen because he is a Bar Ilan alumni and thus they wanted to cancel Bayit Yehudi's participation when Taub couldn't make it.
Gimpel is a resident of Judea and co-head of www.TheLandOfIsrael.com group.
