Israelis Advance at Australian Tennis Open

Amir Weintraub, ranked 196 in the world, advanced to the second round of the Australian Open tennis tournament with a 7:6, 6:5, 6:2 win over 90th-ranked Guido Pella of Argentina. Weintraub will face 17th-seeded, 19th-ranked German Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round.

Earlier, 90th-ranked Shahar Peer defeated 93rd-ranked Russian Alexandra Panova 6:4, 1:6, 6:3. She will face Japan's 100th-ranked Kimiko Date-Krumm, who upset 12th seeded Russian Nadia Petrova 6:2, 6:0, in the second round.
