The Knesset Ethics Committee censured Member of Knesset Ahmed Tibi (Ra'am-Ta'al-United Arab List), Monday, for presenting and ripping a picture of Rabbi Meir Kahane while speaking on the Knesset podium, last July. The committee was responding to a complaint by Knesset member Michael Ben-Ari (Otzma Leyisrael), a student of Rabbi Kahane, who served in the Knesset for more than four years before he and his Kach party were banned. Tibi responded to the complaint by calling Kahane "a representative of a banned terror organization and the tearing of the picture was a political stance against a terror organization."
The committee's decision cited a regulation against the presentation of objects in the Knesset. The decision continued, "Said behavior by MK Tibi not only violated the rules of the Knesset, but also its code of ethics, because such acts harm the dignity of the Knesset and its status in the eyes of the public."
