Wiener: Harpaz Report is Inaccurate, to Say the Least

Colonel Erez Wiener responded, Sunday evening, to his dismissal from the Israel Defense Forces in a letter to his colleagues in which he wrote, "From conversations with some of you during the last difficult period I have been through, especially the past week, I learned that you believe that this report is - to say the least - inaccurate and does not provide answers to the questions it begs. I intend to bring out the truth, for exposing the truth is essential for national security, for the army and for my family and me."

Colonel Wiener was dismissed following the release of the state comptroller's report on the "Harpaz Affair", in which Wiener was cited for gathering information on the office of Defense Minister Ehud Barak amid intriques surrounding the selection of a replacement for his immediate superior, then-chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi. Wiener also wrote, "I regret that the mission, on which I was raised, and on which my children were raised, is ending earlier than expected because I was thrown into this political minefield, which has no connection to military operations - and which I want no part of."
