Campaign Chairman Amir Peretz of Tzipi Livni's Hatenu'ah party reacted, Sunday evening, to news of a doubling of the budget deficit by saying, "The Bibi [Netanyahu]-[Yuval] Steinitz plan to deceive the public in order to win the elections blew up in their face."
Peretz, who gave up his Knesset seat in order to join Hatenu'ah, continued to refer to the prime minister and finance minister when he continued, "Today every citizen understands that what Bibi and Steinitz did was an attempt to buy time so they could hurt our [child] allowances, our pensions, our savings and our children's savings. Bibi is deepening the economic crisis and leading to a social catastrophe which will harm, children, women, seniors, the weak and the middle class! Bibi hoped that the tax hikes and the cuts would be enough to keep the deficit without any change, but its sole purpose was to win the elections and then to impose financial decisions on the citizen. The result that we got an Israeli society that is divided and hurt."
