Hagel for Sanctions on Iran; Treasury Says Don't Skirt

Chuck Hagel, President Barack Obama's nomination to be the secretary of defense, said, Thursday, that he strongly supports international sanctions against Iran's nuclear development program. Speaking to senior members of the Pentagon staff, he said all options should remain on the table, including military options, and that his views have been distorted in the media.

The U.S. Treasury called on American financial institutions to be more stringent in their application of the financial sanctions against the Islamic Republic. The Treasury issued a statement which said, "The purpose of this advisory is to alert U.S. financial institutions to practices being used to evade sanctions...."
